There were 54 mining (except oil and gas) businesses in California that had between 10 and 19 employees in 2016, according to County Business Patterns (CBP) statistics provided by the United States Census Bureau.

CBP data indicates that there are more establishments categorized as accommodation and food services businesses with between 10 and 19 employees in California than in any other category.
